Bighorn
River
Float
fishing is by far the best way to fish the Big Horn throughout the
year. This is a tailwater fishery that has incredible hatches of
mayfly and caddis, which must be see to be believed. Add this to
thousands of catchable trout per miles and you have one of the premier
trout rivers in the world. In the fall hopper fishing is
outstanding as well as large streamers and wooly buggers which bring up
the really BIG browns and rainbows.
Yellowstone
River
The
variety of water types with the diverse insect populations of the
Yellowstone makes this river a fisherman's and fish's paradise.
The Yellowstone is the only major undamed river in the lower 48
states. It flows from the high country along the Montana / Wyoming
border in Yellowstone National Park and ends 600 miles later as it flows
into the Missouri, in North Dakota. All species of trout live in
the Yellowstone and come easy to the fly. Depending on the section
you plan to visit you can have high mountain fishing for cutthroat trout
or lower down you can fish slow water for fish feeding on huge hatches
of caddis and mayflies. Hoppers work great on the Yellowstone in
the late summer and fall as do streamers for huge browns. The fact
is the Yellowstone is one of Montana's finest fisheries.
Spring
Creeks of the Yellowstone
The
spring creeks of the Yellowstone valley are famous for a reason; year
round fishing for very large fish. These are considered the finest
of their kind anywhere. Along with the 5 star accommodations at
Chico Hot Springs, you have a wonderful fishing, dining and lodging
package that says "Montana".
The
spring creeks offer fishing year round and can easily be accessed from a
variety of locations. Armstrong's spring creek and DePuy's spring
creek are the most famous and have the finest fishing available.
Reservations are required well in advance to get only one of these
springs but the serious angler is always rewarded for the effort.
You can expect to catch rainbows and browns that sometimes will top 5
lbs on the finest of tippets. Add a drive in the Paradise Valley
and this is truly a trip to remember.
