Three large rivers...Clark Fork, Blackfoot and Bitterroot are within a few miles of Missoula, MT with the Clark Fork flowing through the center of town.

Along with these three top trout rivers Western Montana has the famous Rock Creek, a  Blue Ribbon Stream just 23 miles east of Missoula  as well as countless small streams and creeks waiting for the angler to catch many trout species. Western Montana is a "quiet" trout fishing destination.

Big Blackfoot River

The Blackfoot River, which was made famous by the movie "A River Runs Through It," flows south from the Bob Marshall Wilderness to its confluence with the Clark Fork River near Missoula.  The river consists of rocky freestone type conditions at its headwaters to deep slow pools down low.  The stream is filled with cutthroat, rainbow and brown trout that reach trophy size.

Bitterroot River

Flowing west from the Montana/Idaho border the west fork and east fork meet at the town of Darby to form the main river that eventually flows into the Clark Fork River 70 miles downstream.  The Bitterroot River is a clear stream that has hatches from April to November.  This makes the Bitterroot a trout fisherman's dream.

Clark Fork River

The Clark Fork is a classic dry fly stream that flows from the old mining community of Butte to its eventual end in Lake Pond D'Oreille in Idaho.  Many of the western Montana streams flow into the Clark Fork, making it one of the largest rivers in the state.  Every type of fishing can be found in this river from rainbows, cutthroat and browns in cold water to bass and pike on the lower sections of the river. Big water to Big Fish on the Lower Clark Fork. A gem in Western Montana.

Rock Creek

Rock Creek flows north from its headwaters in the Pintler Wilderness to its confluence with the Clark Fork, 22 miles east of Missoula. It is the only "Blue Ribbon" trout stream in western Montana.  Home to the famous salmon fly hatch where giant orange stoneflies three inches long fill the sky.  The stream is a classic mountain stream with cutthroat, rainbow, brown trout available.
